What I Wore | Dinner Date

Hey guys, happy Sunday! Just piping in with yet another chatty outfit post for you. It's been a week of extreme ups and downs (tanked another GRE practice yesterday - YAY), but overall I'm feeling optimistic. You all left such encouraging, supportive comments on my last post, I honestly just want to print them and [...]

What I Wore | Growth Mindset

I learned some stuff about triangles tonight, so I decided that now I can do a little blogging, as a treat. Just a chatty post for those of you who read the blog - I'm not going to promote this one on IG or anything. First of all, I wanted to post because I really [...]

Unstructured Ramblings | Holiday Edition

Unstructured Ramblings | Holiday Edition

It's that odd, liminal time between Christmas and New Years, and I've lost pretty much all sense of schedule and structure. My mom was visiting us all last week and I was off from work, so mostly I've just been reading, cooking, eating, eating, and did I mention eating? We had a good time. While [...]

My Top 10 Outfits of 2019

I've been blogging about personal style for almost two years, but I don't think I really hit my stride getting dressed until the late spring of this year. I took a look through all my outfit photos from 2019 in preparation for this post, but I didn't see even one that I really liked until [...]

Everything I Added to My Wardrobe in November

I don't usually do "closet update" type posts, but I've added several things to my wardrobe since my last post and I thought it would be fun to share some mini reviews. I've been pretty absent from the blog lately, so I apologize for that, but I am active on Instagram again. Feel free to [...]

Outfits, Sickness, Grad School, and an Everlane Sale

Coming to you today from my sick bed, where a bad cold has had me down and out for the last couple of days. Anyone else feel like they get sick every time they ride an airplane? I came back from a conference in Orlando last week and in about 24 hours started feeling the [...]

What I Wore | Outfits This Week

What I Wore | Outfits This Week

It was a weird week for weather, with one day topping out at close to 100 degrees and others barely breaking 70. But Capital Weather Gang has officially declared summer over and fall begun, so this morning I spent a good deal of time going through the clothes in my cold-weather storage suitcase and updating [...]

How the Meghan Markle Effect Effects My Wardrobe

How the Meghan Markle Effect Effects My Wardrobe

Meghan Markle wore an Everlane jumpsuit and black heels, so I wore an Everlane jumpsuit and black heels. But actually. After I saw the Duchess of Sussex in her Everlane Essential Jumpsuit while on a visit to South Africa, I was compelled to copy her outfit as exactly as I possible could. You know, as [...]

I Got Dressed. Take Me Somewhere.

I Got Dressed. Take Me Somewhere.

Once upon a time, my husband and I lived in the city, right in DC proper, a literal stone's throw away from the National Zoo. It was so easy to simply step out of our apartment and head off to a museum, a park, an art show, or a cool bar or restaurant. I had [...]

Outfits and Closet Updates

I don't really know what my blogging identity is these days. I've been doing this for over a year and a half - I just thought at some point I'd hit my stride and be more consistent in terms of content and style. I've tried blogging about a lot of different things - sustainability, minimalism, [...]

I put this bodysuit away for a couple of months and pulled it out again today because I was just in the mood for it. It got me thinking about doing a "packing party" as a minimalist wardrobe exercise. If you're not familiar with the concept of a packing party, it was coined by @theminimalists, and it's basically a way to determine how much of the stuff that you own you actually think about and use. You pack up your home as if you're moving, and then you take things out of their boxes as you need them. Stuff that never comes out of the box can be sold, donated, or thrown away. I sort of did this with my cold-weather clothes at the beginning of this year when I made a loose capsule wardrobe and put everything else out of sight. There were a few things I pulled out of storage to wear (like this bodysuit), but there were so many things that I didn't wear and didn't miss. I really struggle with parting with my clothes, especially items that were expensive or gifted by a brand, but I think it's time to do some spring cleaning of my closet and just say goodbye to the things I'm not wearing 🌼.

Just a friendly reminder that your winter boots probably need some TLC. It's been snowing and raining here on and off for the last couple of weeks, so my leather chelsea boots have taken quite a beating from the ice and puddles and mud and road salt. These are mainly what I wear to walk the dog in the winter, and the dog gets a minimum of 3 walks a day (3-5 miles daily). So what I'm saying is, I put these boots through their paces (ha ha get it) and as of this morning they were looking very dirty and salty and sad. It's 60 degrees and sunny at the moment, so I decided to give my boots a break and a quick clean up. The method: (1) wipe off all the dirt, salt, etc with a slightly damp cloth, (2) buff with shoe brush, (3) rub in shoe cream with soft cloth - I use an old t-shirt, and (4) buff with shoe brush again until they are happy and shiny. Then it's good to leave them overnight (at least) before wearing them again. Okay, that's it. Bye!
