2020 Wardrobe Reflections and 2021 Goals

Hello dear readers! It's that time of year again where I am blissfully on an extended vacation from work and have some time to myself to reflect on the year behind me. 2020 was weird and bad, I think we can all agree on that. I wasn't in this space very much because I was [...]

Thursday Boots Review: The Duchess Chelsea Boot

Hey guys! Welcome to my most requested blog review, ever. I bought these boots earlier this fall and posted about them on IG, and I have literally never had so many people up in my DMs asking me to review something.  Before I say anything else, I just want to clarify that this review is [...]

State of the Goblin Shark: Back to the Blob

After not having posted anything here since March, I think a lot of you assumed that I was done with this blog. For a while, I thought I might be done with it too. When I last wrote, we were just at the beginning of so many huge changes that have permanently altered the world. [...]

Life Update, Everlane Drama, Etc.

It's been a long time since I last wrote - maybe the longest break I've ever taken since starting this blog. Here's a quick rundown of what's happened since my last post: I took the GRE, I turned 29, I got very ill, and then the world fell apart. So, I haven't felt much like [...]

What I Wore | Dinner Date

Hey guys, happy Sunday! Just piping in with yet another chatty outfit post for you. It's been a week of extreme ups and downs (tanked another GRE practice yesterday - YAY), but overall I'm feeling optimistic. You all left such encouraging, supportive comments on my last post, I honestly just want to print them and [...]

What I Wore | Growth Mindset

I learned some stuff about triangles tonight, so I decided that now I can do a little blogging, as a treat. Just a chatty post for those of you who read the blog - I'm not going to promote this one on IG or anything. First of all, I wanted to post because I really [...]

February Purchases, Life Updates, Etc.

I'm writing to you from the tail end of a truly perfect long weekend. It's been a long time since I've felt like I had a real rest. My day job leaves me with so little time to do things on the weekdays that I feel guilty if I'm not hyper-productive on the weekends. I [...]

Why I Upgraded My Underwear Drawer

I wrote a few weeks ago about my experience with Thinx period underwear, and a reader asked if I would share more about my overall underwear drawer, since I seem to be on a bit of an underwear journey these days. That reader was very perceptive. I have been on an underwear journey - away [...]

Review | The Everlane Form Bag

Everlane released its popular Form Bag in a few new colors last month, and I got a chance to try one out to review for you here. I've been kind of obsessed with this bag since Elaine reviewed it back in 2018, so I was super excited to receive one of my own to write [...]

How Thinx Completely Changed My Period

How Thinx Completely Changed My Period

I don't think you need a 10-paragraph history of my menstrual cycle for me to explain to you how my period underwear completely changed my life, but I'll provide some highlights that I think are important for context: Three years ago, I switched from using hormonal birth control pills to a copper IUD. Until January [...]

Just your friendly neighborhood Tradlands affiliate here to report on this cardigan and to remind you that if you haven't checked it out yet, the Spring 21 launch is officially live and it is very good! This season brings back old favorites in new shades and (finally!!) extended sizes, as well as some fun newcomers (um hello, shorts!?!). I really love all the new colorways this spring, especially this plum shade 😍.
Personal style does not and has never come naturally to me. As a teen and into college I was painfully obsessed with the wardrobes of girls who had more money than me. That got me into trouble when I graduated, got my first real job, and promptly started opening lines of credit at my favorite clothing stores. It didn't buy me my fantasy wardrobe or make me cool, though, it just filled my closet with cheap stuff in confused styles, and even worse, plunged me into debt. If anything, it made me more insecure about myself. Capsule wardrobing genuinely saved me from that cycle of intense jealousy and racking up credit card debt essentially buying costumes of women I thought I should dress like. It helped me figure out what I *actually* want to dress like, which is actually sort of boring, but I've made my peace with that. It also forced me to get my spending under control and now I never, ever put clothes on a credit card. If I can't pay cash for it, I can't afford it, and if I'm not willing to pay cash for it, I don't really need it that badly. My approach to getting dressed now is not really that interesting or unique, but it's authentic to me and it's not nearly as destructive to my psyche or my wallet as it used to be. Anyway, this is my Spring 10x10 Day 5 outfit. I swapped out the black heeled sandals for black flat sandals 👀.
Spring 10x10 Day 4! I don't fully understand how to do this sweater over shoulders thing, but I like how it looks on other people so I thought I'd give it a go 🤷🏼‍♀️
Spring 10x10 Day 3! The little black dress is probably the most common item in my wardrobe. I might have...6? At the beginning of my minimalism ~journey~ I felt like this was a problem, and like I needed to find The One Little Black Dress to Rule Them All. Now I'm just embracing my love for LBDs and will probably continue to collect more of them as my wardrobe continues to evolve.
Spring 10x10 Day 2! When I first started pursuing a minimalist wardrobe, I focused on timeless, high-quality basics. Having these pieces make up the foundation of my wardrobe means that I always have something to wear, that I can get by with fewer clothes because they all mix & match pretty well, and that I can be a more sustainable consumer because I'm not cycling through seasons of buying and discarding based on trends. This process has had its ups and downs for me over the years - once I got into the ~influencer~ thing I had a hard time saying no any time a brand wanted to give me something. Now that I've backed off from that approach to blogging and IG, I find that I'm selling a lot of that excess stuff, and I'm more satisfied with a smaller, more consistent wardrobe. The items I'm wearing today are perfect examples of the sorts of things that tend to stick around in my closet year after year: simple, versatile basics that work hard and work well together.
Spring 10x10 Day 1! I'm sure there are algorithm experts who would tell me not to make two feeds posts in one day but 🤷🏼‍♀️. This first 10x10 outfit feels like such an obvious one, but I've actually never paired these items together before. I wanted to start with something super simple, comfortable, and put-together, and I think that wearing this drapey silk top over my tencel pleated trousers accomplishes that. I bought these shoes on Poshmark last year and was so excited about them, and then I basically never wore them because I thought they were too fancy for quarantine. Despite being heels they're actually really comfortable and dog-walk friendly, so part of the goal of this 10x10 is to incorporate them more regularly into my spring outfits. Black on black might seem like a wintery combo, but I actually prefer it for warmer weather when I can play more with texture and silhouette 🖤.
